3 80s/90s Horror Sequels you must watch in 2021

My inner child and teen horror fanatics are screaming in utter terror as 80s and 90s hits Chucky, Candyman and Ghostbusters return to our screens with their 2021 sequels!

The spirit of Halloween has me firmly in its gruesome clutches and I am totally here for it. Here are the 3 80s/90s horror sequels you must watch in 2021:

Candyman:

Back in 1992, most school kids were imitating the characters in the cult classic, saying his name five times to a mirror to summon the Candyman (then played by the terrifying Tony Todd).

Nearly 30 years later, producer Jordan Peele (Get Out and Us) and director Nia DaCosta take up the scary mantle in terrorizing a new generation of youngsters, with a stellar cast which includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen and Aquaman), Vanessa Williams, Colman Domingo and more.

Chucky:

The first Child’s Play movie was released when I was a toddler but you can bet your horror-loving butt that I MORE than made up for it by watching ALL of the movies as a teenager in the 90s. I especially loved 1998’s Bride of Chucky because I finally understood that this series of movies was more black comedy than out and out horror.

We shall firmly ignore the ridiculous 2019 reboot that saw the murderous Chucky doll animated because of a factory malfunction and welcome back the OG killer spirit possessed slasher, once again voiced by the glorious Brad Dourif ,in a limited series on Showmax this October.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife:

Director Jason Reitman picks up where his dad Ivan left off with the 80s original and sequel in Ghostbusters:Afterlife this November. Starring Paul Rudd,Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace , this direct sequel while see the new cast discover their connection to the original one and their secret legacy.

While I am SUPER excited for Afterlife, let me just say that the much-lambasted 2016 reboot starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth is still one of my favourites and worthy of a rewatch on days when you are feeling low.
