It has been a long wait but having been trained by BBC’s Sherlock, this was a walk in the park for me. I dodged fan theories, only watched official trailers and read established publications on updates. I was good. Thank you Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat.

Now that the show is back and breaking the internet plus becoming the theme of every second meme, it’s time to get down to business with the overall question being – Who will sit on the Iron Throne at the end of it all? We deserve answers and as the first two episodes have shown, nothing is set in stone. In fact, the bookies are having sleepless nights. They have:

  • the rightful heir to the throne with amazing coats
  • a power hungry woman who only cares about one man and two mythical creatures
  • an evil woman that has lost everything and is trying to gain control
  • a dead guy that’s a king with unbelievable javelin skills
  • a wildcard pick

I really liked how the show started with depth. The populist manner which it had taken before has been scrapped (fingers crossed) and they are taking us deeper into the Game of Thrones. Conversations have substance, characters are showing their depth and even the dragons are showing personality. We’re watching an HBO show and not network TV. I love it! But it’s coming at a cost – how much can they fit in 6 episodes?

Provided we get a full stop instead of a question mark, Game of Thrones will have an outstanding finish. This isn’t the Nolans’ Inception neither is it The Sopranos. This is Game of Thrones. We need a definitive end where people can be happy or they can be pissed, I don’t care. I demand a full stop.

Now that we know what the Night King is after, things are a little more clear and the game is on. My worry is Cersei’s position now that the army of the dead has arrived at Winterfell. What’s her next move? Does she commit and send her army to fight the dead? Does she wait it out? Does she cut a deal with the Night King? Either way, her not appearing in the recent episode was an opportunity lost for the show to take into consideration every angle of this war. Everyone has got something to lose and something to gain, why exclude the current holder of the championship?

Death (if you still have a favourite character at this stage of the show, they’re going to die)

Quote of the episode
“I know death. He’s got many faces. I look forward to seeing this one.” – Arya
